Central Arkansas - Information For Travelers

It is interesting how Little Rock, Arkansas is several parts of one whole. I guess this is what makes our town so Awesome. There is something for everyone.

Interestingly enough, the people in Little Rock who work, live and play in certain parts of the Rock, are pretty loyal to a given area.

I don't know if it is intentional, or when you move to Little Rock you are given the Sorting Hat to decide what Group you will be in. Since first moving to Little Rock, in 1998, I have kept to the Hillcrest / Heights area .

I am in Stifftt's Station now, it is the same zip code; it is the same Bohemian / Eclectic mixture of folks.

For a short time, I lived over in W.Central Little Rock [The subject of this article], but I only remember it with a snarly lip. I was never comfortable living there, but I do visit. Some of my favorite hidden treasures are there.

As ludicrous as this may seem, our sister City of North Little Rock might as well be on the moon as it is only a bridge length apart, but if a Little Rock dweller is asked, "do you know so-and-so", they live in North Little Rock?" There is an immediate rolling of the eyes, and a hearty, NO! It is okay to live in one, and work in the other, but neither side claims the other.

Loony Bin Comedy Club - Little Rock

(501)228-5555

gps coordinates 34.76635,-92.38875

The Loony Bin was originally called Stanford's Comedy House when it opened in 1993. Located at I-430 and Rodney Parham Road, in West Little Rock. They have the funniest people on the planet. The Loony Bin is a comfortable atmosphere and they have prices you can live with.

Over the years, comedy greats such as
Jeff Foxworthy, Ricky Smily, Rodney Carrington, T.P. Hearn, Tommy Chong, Earthquake, Jimmy "JJ" Walker, Jeff Dunham, Bill Engvall, and Bob Nelsen. There are too many to mention.

The comics you see today will be the "stars" of tomorrow.

The club has been featured on Comedy Central's "Insomniac", Fox's "Show Me the Funny" and the feature film "inside jokes"! As Charlie Chaplin says, "A day without laughter is a day wasted".

It has been a while since I have been to the Loony Bin, but I will never forget some of the one-liners our comedian came up with: He found himself having to deal with our traffic, and I have to admit it can be pretty bad. He said something that was so funny, because it is true..."in Little Rock, using your turn-signal indicator is only showing a sign of weakness..." I guess you have to be here, but I often wonder why they bother at the Little Rock, Auto Dealerships to put turn signals on the cars. They are probably pristine at trade in...

North Little Rock, Argenta Neighborhood

The North Little Rock, Argenta Neighborhood, truly shares properties with the City of Little Rock, but the demographics of the two rarely meet.

The Annual Arkansas River Fest has become a shared event. The bands, booths, food and offerings have combined to require both sides of the Arkansas River. The UP Pedestrian Bridge makes it simple good exercise to travel to each side. It is crowded during these large festivals.

As usual, the Arkansas River Rail runs every 15 minutes, through major venues. Bike (pedal kind) friendly North Little Rock, and a pedestrian River Market area, give those who want to see it all, plenty of ways around.

Personally, I think we have an awesome town in Little Rock, and North Little Rock, and as this week progresses, we will finally get over that Big Dam Bridge and get a few glimpses of North Little Rock.

One person's vision who works for the State, promoted bicycle friendly designs in the North Little Rock Trails and walking paths. The increase in pedestrian traffic has been good for both of the Twin Cities - Thank you Tom Ezell for all of the work you and others have put into this.

This Hub or article will highlight the West Central part of Little Rock , but not out past Cantrell Blvd. That is the westernmost part of town, and That will have to be someone else's story. I still have South West, East, and areas right outside of the Rock. Depending how it goes, we may take a few trips to show Hidden Treasures in small towns, I know personally...

Terrace in the Green - 2200 Rodney Parham Rd, LR

(501) 217-9393 GPS coordinates 34.75547,-92.39302

Terrace in the Green is a hidden treasure located in the Cypress Corner Building. The Cypress Building sits gently near the Pleasant Valley Country Club, at the corner of Rodney Parham Road, and Green Mountain Parkway . It is beautifully designed building with Green ideas and beautiful office space. Regions Bank, Merrill Lynch, Morgan Stanley and several other businesses call this place home.

Terrace in the Green is a corner restaurant for the convenience of those who work in the building, a few outside tables for those just coming off the Golf Course, and those in the neighborhood who love a tasty Salmon Salad, or a well beloved Gyro's Wrap. One can get bottled beer, mixed drinks, soda, tea and coffee.

It is a powerhouse of guests . There are always interesting customers and the wait staff are truly a pleasure to have serving. This is considered fine dinning. It would be a nice private spot for a proposal. Business or marriage.

Gyro's Wrap, Unsweetened Tea, Tip = $10.00
