Seeing red, the search engine crawl, moving hubs

Sharing the wealth
The main thing about HubPages that is encouraging to the new and well-seasoned writer who in recent days past had little support, is the community . Hubbers come from different walks of life, different belief systems , and varied backgrounds , but we are all here enriching each other's experiences.
My premier with HubPages was in July 2010. Unemployed and at wits end , with the hottest summer on record beating down on my already non-existent income, this thought kept coming to me, "I am going to write my way outta here" . Even if that means I am certifiable, that is okay too. Many things happened in succession, bringing big changes and a referral to HubPages, where I took to it like a goldfish to the water..
I have two blogs that I don't like to mention at the time, because I have neglected them terribly. These are public service type blogs, and I was hoping that one day, by an illusive formula of readers and buyers, would I attain magic earnings from AdSense.
At the end of 2006 I read Google AdSense instructions, learning how to start a blog on blogspot, and link it to AdSense. For 2 weeks and 80+ hours I read, studied, and kept linking until I got answers. I joined a few Google forums, and got a very foggy idea of earnings. In 2.5 years I earned $1.76 . I had a lot of traffic, and visitors finding me in searches on my blogs that are exclusive topics.
There are many instructional Hubs about Hubs available on HubPages
There are many instructional Hubs by administrators available on HubPages. The HubElite and many other Hubbers ,who all pass on treasures of wisdom. There is big help for newbies.
Hubbers with time and history write to help other Hubbers avoid growing pains they themselves experienced. Most writers here are hoping to earn passive income, and possibly enough to live on for years to come. To do that it takes a village.
HubPages creators and staff have benefited those who would write and promote with good content. For years I have mooned after Writer/Writer.com, but their fees were out of the question for a beginning writer in my financial bracket. (This week Writer.com launched a free site for writers .) Thank you HubPages for what you have done for those who cannot help but write.
• The Point •••• The Hub is the center of the wheel. It turns and transports by the support writers give one another. By the way, my AdSense earnings are almost $40.00 after 4 months of writing on HubPages. (Update, 12.18.10, my AdSense earnings this morning are almost $55.00) It is a lot of work, but the most rewarding I have ever done. 12.24.11 update; June 1, 2011 I got my first Google AdSense payout of $106.00!
This is my gift back to you Hubbers. I learned something yesterday 11.14.10 -
- The APA (American Psychological Association ) Style of writing, citing and publishinghas rules for internet publishing. This I knew, because as a recent Geology Student at a major University, we were required to abide by these rules.
- These rules are used by those who publish scholarly and technical writing .
- Crazy as it may seem, internet search engines, are programed to 'read' titles by professional standards . This I did not know.
I have provided links and the source for these rules, but I will give you the quickie version. I made changes to all my Titles, and many Sub-titles, and my searchs of my Hubs immediately rose. In 24 hours all of my Hubs have changed places, last night when I first did it, within the hour my Hub Analytics page was many Red Arrows, meaning my Hub traffic was climbing.
- The only Capitalization of words in a sentence should be the First word, and any otherproper nouns. [Yosemite National Park, Mrs. Claus, I-630 Freeway]
- No ~, -, ..., ", !, ?, (), - A question mark at the end of a sentence is okay.
- No - in between words. Use commas.
- Do your best to make your title one sentence.
- Although we want to use Capitalization for Emphasis... we are stopping the crawl of search engines with our emphasis.
- Please do not go wild and simply take my word for it. Try it on a couple of your slower moving Hubs, or Hubs that were very popular, but haven't gotten much readership.
- I am a rebel, and the rules of grammar and rule structure make me want to say y'all, and youns! I love ---- dashes, EMPHASIZING is fun when you don't have an English teacher snappiing you back to reality. I do want to write full-time. for that I must be read. I want to be found.
Good Luck and the Best to each of you . Thank you for all of the kindness and help you have given me. "Thinking and Growing Rich"
An example of a professional title, search engines will crawl
http://www.waikato.ac.nz/__data/assets/pdf_file/0017/51632/APA_Referencing_6th_ed.pdf
EXAMPLE:
Brown, D. (1970). Bury my heart at Wounded Knee: an Indian History of the American West . New York, NY. Henry Holt and Co.
The first letter of the first word of the main title, subtitle and all proper nouns have capital letters.
This is what caught my attention. I have been playing and not being serious about Hub presentation. I flagrantly used ~'s and !, and ??? and - avoiding using standard language structure. I have been Capitalizing words for emphasis. This is playing and not being serious.

You are a fun writer, for sure. :)
Hey Lori, I'm so happy i sat down here before heading out to key west...
This is the kind of information i need to hear. My ad sense acct. tells me i need to correct a problem before it allows me to move forward - and I can't find the bloody thing.. I must have filled out and refilled out my ad sense info ten times and still its a no go. When i look into my acct it says "active" i don't know, i just gave up.
This means of course. I have 90 + hubs to re-title and correct... and it's all thanks to you lady! :) ughh! Ha!
Peace and Hugs ~ gregZ :]-~
Congrats on your continued growth with Hubpages. Hopefully you can revive your other blogs as well and further boost your online earnings.
Cheers Lilly, I have printed this out to read in more detail, loves the new pic and the cool hat ; )
I love it! Thank you so much for sharing your new found knowledge. I'm putting it to work and grateful to you for putting it out there to help us all to be seeing red, hub traffic rising. Love and Peace :)
Hi Lilly-I've wondered about capitalization in titles before, and think I'll give your advice a try. I certainly never thought such things could stop a bot in its tracks!
Thanks for such valuable advice.
Great find. Thank you.
I get huge red triangles on many days, yet my scores on the hubs seldom rise and then, next day, or a few hours later, I see all blues. I don't get it. I have written many, many scholarly papers for my under grad as well as graduate courses, yet those red triangles here don't seem to do much. Great hub though.
hi this is the first of your hubs I have visited and I am so glad that I did . Fantastic information. Book marked for future use.
Just stopping back to share, I've made lots of changes to my hubs and will continue to do so till all are changed. I'm seeing red and will let you know how it progress's. THanks again. Voted Up again and all that is good. Love and Peace :)
Great info for us dummies! Thanks for being a big help! You're one smart cookie!
Hi, Lilly, thank you so much for this info, it is things like this that make all the difference, I have bookmarked it, and if I forget, I will certainly go back and read it again until it does sink in! lol cheers nell
Lilly, I was surprised to realize you've only been on HubPages since July. Thanks for the tips. I think I'm guilty of dashes pretty frequently. :/
Great advice, even though I don't write on the Hubs as a commercial writer it is however nice to see your traffic rise and also get more readership as well as followers.
I have various means of drawing traffic, using the linking systems, like hub to hubs. Also linking to and from outside sources and my own website. I have tweaked my titles and content from time to time and within 24 hrs the search engines have caught the changes and I see many of my hubs with red arrows on them.
The next day some blue ones appear, so it's up and down. However I am happy with my hub score. I usually run between 93 and 98
I don't pay much attention to hub scores, I simply enjoy writing, leaving and receiving interesting comments like yours and so many other creative writers. Bravo, great hub, loved it.
Thank you...Great advice! I have just written my first Hub and have no idea what I am doing. I have spent so much time looking up "information" (SEO, backlinking, Adwords) that I keep forgetting that I am actually here to write!
Good and clear advice, I am so glad I found you here! I started at hubpages mostly for fun and because I wanted to try! But the reason for continuing is all nice people, like you, who share your knowledge. Thank you!
I agree with you. I am glad to see many red arrows on my hub analytics page. This hub useful for us. I always learn and learn from many hubbers, including you. Thanks for share your knowledge with us based on your experience. Rating up!
Prasetio:)
You are doing great my friend! Great adsense earning. I hope more to come in future.
Thank you for sharing this Lilly, I have been attempting to tweak some of my hub titles lately and sometimes it works and sometimes it does not. Now I will have a more structured approach to it through reading your hub. Voted up and useful. Thanks.
Thanks for the article, rising traffic is the best reward for one's effort!
Great Hub, Lilly! I am new to Hub Pages and this was very helpful information. I look forward to reading more of your hubs! I love your hat, by the way. :)
You know I just remembered how careful Ezines is to make certain titles are written as you've suggested and if not the program now automatically changes them. I'm changing all of mine here on hubpages little by little till all is done. I have noticed my traffic moving upward and all from external traffic. Great tips and thanks so very much for your professional help and guidance reminding us all to utilize such information to make hubpages a better internet presence. Love and Peace. :)
This hub has very useful information about Titles. We had some terrible titles when we started, and we still have some that need to be improved.
It's always great to look at the 'my account' page and see a lot of red arrows. When there are a lot of blue triangles we always joke that we've got the blues (again).
Keep smiling.
Thanks so much!
Things on hubpages are slow. I have 0 earnings so far but not gonna give up!
I'm still working on making the changes. More and more I notice every Google search you do, no matter if you type it in all caps it returns in small case, very interesting. It's often the things that are so obvious in your face you don't notice. I must say I'm maintaining more traffic on an even flow and it's climbing with just that simple change. Thanks Lilly your fantastic. Happy Holidays, Peace, Love and Joy :)
Just wanted to add that this is such useful advice. I would have never guessed that by removing my silly habit of sometimes putting three dots between words in a title could make red arrows appear to show the traffic increasing but it did. Thank you Lilly and for the nice message too.
Thanks for sharing these great tips. This is a very useful hub for me. i learned a lot from your hub.
Great info! I had no idea search engines read in the APA format. I just happen to have my trusty little book on APA that I got when I took some college classes. I'll dust it off and start using it again. Thanks! Now following you. :-)
Thank you for the follow. I had to come visit your site, and your articles are awesome! I will be sure to keep up reading everything you write. Voted up and awesome!
Thanks for all the great info. here very useful!!
This is great advice. I'll try to take off my capitalization and see what happens.

LillyGrillzit – This is really substantial information, and thank you so much for sharing this. The most successful people on all levels of life are those who share with others all they have, including their secrets and sources of wealth. You could have kept this info for yourself, not allowing others to become competition for you, but you shared it and (perhaps without realizing) you displayed beautiful, Chrits-like characteristics. My wish for you is lots and lots of success as a professional Internet-writer.
You managed to kick my stubborn mind into gear. I am so reluctant to change my writing from a hobby to a work. It was at a time of my life ‘work’, and that was not fun. But I’m asking myself now, why not, at least, write and publish in such a way that money can come my way. Why blocking the source? Thank you, Lady, you gave me an idea I am going to put into practice, and who knows, I may forever regard you as one of those special-special people in my live who put me on the right track to success. Regard me as one of your loyal supporters. I will do everything in my power to raise your income.
