Doodle for Google, honors Les Paul

Doodle for Google leaves interactive guitar up for days

The Les Paul, Interactive Doodle 4 Google, the week of June 9, 2011 is a Doodle 4 Google Interactive guitar. This Doodle is in honor of Les Paul. Celebrities, like Lady Gaga, along with over 10,000,000 others playing Interactive Guitar, have been such a big hit, it was left up an additional day! Fun.

In defense of Doodle 4 Google's request to Children for Social Security numbers for participants in the Doodle4Google

It is amazing when some organization, group or company does philanthropic work, they are bombarded, criticized, and jumped on without any real investigation. What? Is doing good works considered bad?

It is tax law that any person who can win $15,000.00 be willing to abide by US Tax Law. That would necessitate a Social Security number. Even if they are a minor. Any contest that pays out over $5,000.00 must withhold 28%, and they need a taxpayer ID number. To enter this possible $15,000.00 prize, a contestant, even a minor must submit a Tax ID. It is not shocking or exclusive to Google.

We may be mad at Google for something else, but let's not merge the two issues. Doodle4Google is a unique and cool program that needs to grow and be recognized for its ingenuity.

What is a Google Doodle? Where is it found, and what it has to do with you?

Daily artistic updates made to the Google dot com Home Page everyday are Google Doodles. This idea was inspired in 1998 when the second O in Google was made into The Burning Man. Unlike most companies who keep the same Logo, the same for 20, 50 or 100 years.

Google would break another mold. In 2000, and an intern (now a webmaster), Dennis Hwang created a Logo for Bastille Day. The founders were so pleased with the results, that Dennis was appointed Doodle Master. At first, the Google Logo was changed to correspond to mainly popular holidays and events. Today, the Logo changes almost daily to correspond world events, memorials, weather, and happenings. These are called Google Doodles.

For Google users and fans, it is fun to open up the Google window each day, and see a different Google Doodle featured. Now, we will be on the look-out for the Doodle 4 Google student participants.

Google Labs and other Google platforms, are valuable tools...

Google.com is the search engine that I use. I have been "Googling" for research for over 5 years, I am good at Googling. Easily entertained, the changing Google Doodle-scape has kept me guessing for a long time.

Before I started a Google.com e-mail account, I dabbled with a few of the Google Lab products, and then an acquaintance turned me on to Google Documents (Google Doc's), and I found out I could create Spreadsheets, forms, Documents, and Power Point Presentations, with a GMail account.

There are also bonuses to using G-mail, namely that there is unlimited storage, free Information and Long Distance Information, and Google Call. I have had to make an important call while the phone was being used by a roommate, dialing local numbers for no cost, using the Google Call feature.

When I started my first Blog Spot Blog in 2006, and signed up for AdSense. I found so much information and help from the Google Forums, staff and on-line personnel who are invested in the Google Community, and are happy and willing to help.

This means for anyone who is willing to learn, and can find some adventure and fun, can become a small part in growing Google.  A Village venture. Google Labs, and other Google Platforms, Videos, and Webinars are valuable tools for the on-line writer/publisher.

Just like this Doodle 4 Google Contest, this is fun, and offers opportunities for school age kids to express themselves, and be an instrumental part of the village as well. Thank you Google, for all you do.

I did not know about this! Darn, we missed the deadline... My daughter is a big doodler.. She has some awesome drawings on her walls. if she decides to move out one day I think I will leave her walls just the way they are.. They used to be white... I think I can see some here and there every now and then..

All I want ta know is if a student can enter without the whole school can the student enter seperatley

LillyGrillzit profile image

LillyGrillzit Hub Author 13 months ago

Morgan, thanks for reading, and responding. Yes, if they were to have the contest again in 2012, the student enters as an individual. This is one reason the media was hounding Google over this contest, because the student is required to submit a social security number, because the prize is $15,000.00. Any contest of that size would require tax information, which is the social security, or tax i.d. The contest is over for this year 2011, and here is hoping they will have the contest again next year (2012).

I don't think the 2011 finalists have been notified at all yet. The link you posted showed the finalists from 2010, not 2011. So we're still holding out hope that my daughter is a finalist!

Ashley, you are correct, I did jump the gun. I guess it will be announced tomorrow? Good Luck! What State?
