As a young child, I stood in the living room, and listened to a speech by a Black Southern Reverend, known as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. I was only 5 years old, but I remember that day, like it was yesterday. I could not move. I stood transfixed. My heart was set. There was a new day dawning in America. Finally, in 1963, 250,000 people of all colors, races and sects joined together to hear about the Dream that many have desired since the founding of this Country. What I appreciate about this movement is that it included all Peoples. It was the beginning of a new day for people of color...

I do not appriciate that there were some People left out of this Dream. It was not due to Dr. Martin Luther King's short-sightedness. It was do to a grip, the U.S. Government continues to hold on Native Americans to this day. Our Nation's history cannot be ignored. What was done to the Native People is a horror that makes slavery look like "fine dinning" (it was not). Anyone knows there is Karma, or sowing what has been reaped, and I believe this is why a Death Grip has been held over The People. It is the day to let go.

When explorers started landing on what is known today as the Americas, the Spanish, Dutch and then Europeans, felt they had some kind of Divine Right to the land, including the Indigenous Peoples who were here. History tells us that Spanish Conquistadors often used the Native Indians to war against other factions who attempted to settle. Unfortunately, the very unclean habits of the Spanish explorers introduced diseases to the new land almost immediately.

A couple of hundred years later, European Criminals were set onto ships with scarcely enough provisions, living in filth and disease. They landed on North American shores, and declared all they could see as theirs by Manifest Destiny, and Divine Right. The Natives they met upon arrival, were mostly helpful, and assisted the new Pilgrims in staying alive, and taught them to feed themselves the first couple years in this new land.

Although many of these 'prisoners' sent to America were classified as such, was because they protested the ruling Hierarchy and the Church of England. They had no vision to see that Natives were content and correct in their Spiritual beliefs.

How could they love an Earth that was being destroyed in jolly old Europe by industrialization and wonderful Coal fire energy? They could never understand the Natives playful and cheerful nature. They could never fathom a relationship between Man and the Wind, Woman and divine inspiration. They could not understand why the Natives were comfortable and not starched up in clothing that was uncomfortable and unhealthy.

Even though these now freed, New Americans, wanted to create a New Charter that viewed all men as equal, and gave every person "unalienable rights" , and Freedom from Religious dictatorship. When the new criminals landed, and were cared for by Native Indians, helping them survive their first winter, they did not consider the Native People more than the Wild Animals and Wilderness they must subdue. Several hundred years of European Creep, built gold brick upon gold brick of greed. The Europeans had filthy sanitary practices and they spread their sickness rapidly, killing many Indigenous peoples with their careless and prideful 'christian' attitudes and closed minded ways.

The history is long and horrible, and if you would like an accurate account of the push of the Native Americans onto Reservations, and the proceeding massacre of hundreds of thousands of Native Americans at the first Battle of Wounded Knee, read, "Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee" by Dee Brown.

I read this book when I was 11 years old. It was another defining moment for me. I have never stopped being an activist for Civil and Social Justice. My heart has been with the Native Nations since then. I have Native Blood running through my veins, but because of the shame and fear of being associated with Indian blood, my genealogy has been buried long ago. My spirit continues to cry out for Justice.

In 1973 the United States Government once more declared War on the Native Americans. There was a lot of corruption in government officials who had access to Indian Reservations. Adding insult to injury, one of the worst was at The Pine Ridge Reservation. One agent, a man who was supposed to be there for the betterment and protection of the Tribal Peoples, was responsible for at least 60 executions of the same Indians he was in office to protect. The AIM (American Indian Movement), opposed Oglala Tribal Chairman Richard (Dick) Wilson, and seized the town of Wounded Knee in protest. [The murder rate of Natives on this Reservation at the time was 170 deaths per 100,000 ]. Leonard Peltier a young man, and member of AIM, who came in for the demonstration and removal of Dick Wilson, ended up in the middle of a battle known today as Wounded Knee 2. The U.S. military and government officers, including the US Marshall's, surrounded Pine Ridge the same day, and laid siege against it and suspected AIM members for 71 days.

Two FBI agents were brutally murdered, in this incident and that is a horrible loss.These many years later, with all of the crime scene technology, and understanding of Crime Scene evidence, there is no real and lasting evidence that Leonard Peltier murdered either of these agents. Recently, more evidence can prove, he did not kill either of these two agents. As with many other incidents we have been made aware of over the decades, Law Enforcement has at times been corrupt and made grave errors. The AIM, knew the attitude, and knew they could never receive Justice or a fair shake. Two FBI agents had been gunned down, and someone was going to pay. A thumb print on a gun that was destroyed in a fire, and could no longer be fired; "Witnesses" who's testimonies were coerced by whatever means, should no longer be enough to keep a man in prison his whole adult life.

Leonard Peltier was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize in 2007. This cannot be done by mere letter writers, and political activists. Nominations are given through careful diagnosis of the life work of a person. He has been made an example of how you do not mess with the White Man when he sticks you on a Reservation. Mr. Peltier has done enormous good during his years of captivity. He is an example of what happens when Law Enforcement acts on emotion instead of following the law they are supposed to enforce. I have followed this case, off and on for over 40 years. Me and a group of protesters showed up at the Los Angeles Bureau of Indian Affairs to protest and have a "sit-in" over the actions of our Government in 1973.

The only way there is going to be true Justice and resolution in this matter is by Forgiveness. History has proven that it was standard practice to stand behind corrupt officers assigned and put in Office by the Bureau of Indian Affairs. The FBI, was not known for good behaviour during the 1950's - 1980's. The Federal Bureau of Investigation, have many bones in their old closets. We need to come to grips and realize it was a bad situation made worse by the desire to assert control over the Native Nations that should have been allowed to be the beautiful and fruitful People are Destined to be.

Leonard Peltier has served someone else's time and been punished for murders he was simply accessory, to. He is a 'Living' example". The entire Pine Ridge Reservation have paid over and again with abject poverty and a hopelessness that has settled into pockets of generations of a once proud and majestic People. Enough is Enough. Instead of Federal Law Enforcement agencies continuing to be a threatening presence to any President who would dare free this "Example". It is time for forgiveness. A time to move forward. Today is the day to let it go, and Let Leonard Peltier go!

They have no benefit in declaring Leonard Peltier unlawfully convicted of the murder of the two FBI agents who lost their lives during this modern battle. They have a mission to lobby for and make public awareness of individuals and groups held as political prisoners. They continue to stand for Leonard Peltier. I continue to pray for his release and amnesty against any further punishment... Enough is enough. Drop the egos - Let Forgiveness, Peace and Progress reign. Let us restore the Native American Nation and help the Healing begin.

Many Reservations are reeling in poverty, alcoholism, drug addiction, and all the crimes against one another that come with abject poverty and hopelessness. Like any person who has lost their home, these Earth Connected People, have had their Religion and joy stripped from them.The Tribal Peoples, have had blow after blow from the Country they can count on to steal from them and deceive them. Should this happen in America? Who could Dream such a thing? The Natives should be restored to their tribal ways, their beautiful Spirit and courage. We need to stop this 240 year pissing contest. Free Leonard Peltier , and let the Healing begin. Native Tradition has much to teach us all, it may be the Native ways that save our Earth after all... Aho ~ I say, "Let the Healing begin today ~ Great Father in Washington" Please continue to keep promises that have been broken for too many moons.
